It’s actually hard to review this game. From one side there is nothing special. You don’t even have to be a good driver to win the races (but that gives you more cash). From the other side everything makes it great. Wrecking opponents, running over pedestrians, dogs and even cows. Who doesn’t like that?
Do you remember the old Carmageddon games in 1990ties? If you are old enough to do so, you will understand what makes this game special. This time the only thing that has changed are the graphics. Your mission behind the wheel is still the same – wreck or be wrecked.
You’ll find Carmageddon at the dirty bottom of good taste. Or better yet you will have fun there. You’ll find it very satisfactory to drive over pedestrians and see that their severed arm or leg is jammed behind your spoiler (if your car has one). Explode pedestrians or electrify them. No matter what – you will enjoy that. You’ll smile when you see that your car is covered with blood.
Even in the old Carmageddon games the damage to cars was very detailed. The cars flew apart in million bits. Nothing has changed here either. Just now the view is more enjoyable due to the great graphics. But that works in both ways – your car may also be wrecked.
There are a lot of ways to win races here. You do not have to be a good driver to win. Even if you haven’t run through a single checkpoint along the track you may be the winner. Just wreck all your opponents with brute force or with the many powers-ups available on the map which is fully open for your hearts desire. The chaos reigns over the maps here.
